Comparison: Maybelline vs. Hard Candy

So while I was shopping at my local WalMart the other day I always stop in the cosmetics department to see what's new. Now I know these aren't real new but I hadn't seen them before. I seen the Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots collection and this beauty caught my eye.

It is called Clearly Spotted and it's a black and white glitter topper. In this one it is micro, small, and medium black and white hex glitter. I'm a sucker for a black and white glitter! At first I thought "this looks so much similar to many other black and white glitters and I already have the Hard Candy Black Tie Optional, do I really need this one?" Then I looked closer, there was no bar glitter in there! I had to have this one!!

After I got home I figured I'd do a comparison between the Black Tie Optional (BTO) and Clearly Spotted, so I put on Clearly Spotted right away. They are somewhat similar but yet different at the same time. I was in love. Application was easier than the BTO and I was in love! Placement of the glitter was super easy and I didn't really have to "place" it, it just fell into place nicely.

The Hard Candy Black Tie Optional has micro, small, medium, and large black and white hex glitter as well as black bar glitter. Even though I love this look, I find the bar glitter difficult to work with and it never stays down. A few days after wear I will notice the ends of the bar glitter are starting to lift. I'm also not a huge fan of the large hex glitter but maybe that's because I have small nail beds so it looks huge on me.

I have to say, between the two the Clearly Spotted is my favorite just because I'm not a big fan of the bar glitter.

Zoya Trixie & Lola

Today I am sporting this fun and bright mani. I was looking for something bright but unique and this is what I came up with.

I started out with a base of Zoya Lola (hot pink with a opalescent glow) and added 2 accent nails of Zoya Trixie (a silver metallic). I used 3 coats of Lola to get my desired opacity since it is a little sheer and 2 coats of Trixie was all I needed.

Then to be fun I added a coat of Hard Candy Black Tie Optional to the Trixie accent nails. I think that this black and white glitter (black and white different sized hex glitters and bar glitters) is such a fun one to have. I use this one more than I ever thought I would and may have to hit my local WalMart for a back up bottle before I run out. My sisters even love this one so I may pick up a few and gift them out. I think everyone should have this in their collection.

Then once things were somewhat dry I added a couple coats of Out The Door to protect and add shine.

Hard Candy~Crush On Lava

Today I am showing you Hard Candy "Crush On Lava". This is from the new Hard Candy line at WalMart. Crush on Lava is a duochrome, it gives off two different colors depending on the lighting.
I have mixed feelings about this one. Not because of the formula or anything, because I don't know how I like it on me and how well it works with my skin tone.

This one is a brown/bronze/coppery duochrome. The application was smooth and was not clumpy or runny. It applied very well. The dry time was good, it didn't take too long to dry. I am just so unsure of this one that I really don't know what else to say. The color is great, it just doesn't work well for me.

These pictures were taken indoors with flash and I used 2 coats with no topcoat for this either. Hard Candy polishes can be found at your local WalMart. The Hard Candy new line has so many different colors, glitters, toppers, and just plain fun polishes that you should really run to WalMart and pick up a few today!

Hard Candy~Black Tie Optional

I added a little something to my Zoya Blu today. I picked up a couple of the new Hard Candy polishes that are out in WalMart now. I was lucky because my WalMart had the whole collection in stock. This one which is called Black Tie Optional was the last one on the shelf so I snatched it up!

In my opinion this is very similar to some of the indies out there, I won't name any specific names but I know you know which ones I am talking about. This seems to be a very popular type of glitter. In this one there is 3 different types of black and white hex glitter and black bar glitter. I absolutely love that you can create so many different looks with this depending on what color you put it with.

I found that the application of this was not too bad. I did have to fish around for some of the larger pieces of glitter but it wasn't too bad. I didn't have any problems with the glitter not laying down or anything like that which was nice. Sometimes you have a problem with it wanting to lift up but this one didn't.

It dried to a pretty shiny finish but I put a top coat of Wicked Fast on over it to smooth it out. I thought that the black and white glitter on top of this beautiful pastel blue was a great combination and I can't wait to try it out with other colors.
